A Powerfully Simple Approach to Aural Tuning: a complete tuning with step-by-step breakdown, 2-period class; first period is a tuning concert, with my temperament and protocol and close-ups of my pin-moving-and-setting technique projected on the screen---silence except for tuning. Intro to the concert will be short, funny, engaging, and will ask for focused attention.
The second period will be playing the piano, listening, breaking down what I did. My tuning protocol is super-simple and focused; so many of my colleagues and students have asked for this class; I feel that most ways of teaching aural tuning are too complex and too "heady;" I've found a way to teach it quickly, cleanly, using the whole body to listen to the whole tone---to tune as an artist listens.
I will reveal powerful, simple ways to become more and more precise, musical and stable in one's tuning very quickly. This will be for any and all with a love of listening and learning.
Instead of talking about musical, soaring, rock-solid tunings, I want to produce one in front of a room of colleagues, and then have them test it and talk about it.

We'll explore practical ways to stay excited and focused in our work; everything I've learned from my mentors I've customized for my own life and talents, and I want to encourage and inspire technicians to do the same thing---trust your body, your ears, your own way of learning things.
I'm going to share the best I've learned in almost 40 years about how to make a piano sing...and how to allow pianists to be happy and grateful. We'll get into the heart of diagnostics, regulation, tuning, and voicing---how to look for and find the "sweet spots" in every piano, and how to use simple techniques to have a lot more fun while you work while steeply raising your skill level and your financial health. We'll be listening and doing; my classes are quite interactive. Nobody has ever fallen asleep...
