This is a very viable option for old quality built uprights that
are still in structurally sound condition.
Watch this page for upcoming photo documentation of
a typical upright recondition.
Price? around $1,500.
Some of the uprights from the golden era c. 1895 to 1929 were
wonderful pianos.

Before shots showing typical early 1900's upright needing key recovering, new keybed felts and action reconditioning, note rat's nest. The stringing is in good condition, a pre-requisite for this type of job. The cabinet will be rubbed out with oil and stain remover. Refinishing and restringing cost several thousand dollars. By first determining that the stringing and soundboard and bridges are in good order, and by accepting the original finish, we are able to concentrate on a recondition of the action and keys. I help you make these determinations when tuning the piano.

Here the action is in the process of being reconditioned. Major components are saved, but many felts are replaced. Everything is inspected, cleaned, and repaired as needed.
Later, when installed, everything will be regulated.
